Simple Present Tense Step By Step Explanation

English Grammar Simple Present Tense
Tense is a grammatical term used to indicate whether a sentence (or a verb) is an action in the past, present or future. derived from the Latin term "Tempus" which means "Time".
In English, there are three main tenses: the present, the past, and the future.
Each Tense is categorized into 4 types:
1. Simple
2. Continuous
3. Perfect
4. Perfect Continuous

English Grammar Simple Present Tense

Simple Present 
It is used to denote scientific facts, universal truths and habitual actions.
The Simple Present tense is commonly used with time expressions like:
every day, sometimes, always, often, usually, seldom, never etc.
sub + V1 + s/es + ..............
For example
She always forgets her purse.
He never forgets his wallet.
The Moon goes around the Earth.
John drives a taxi.
He does not drive a bus.

When should we use simple Present Tense?

1. For habits

For Example
I drink coffee at breakfast.
She eats Dosa.
My friends watch television every day.

2. For repeated actions or events

For Example
I catch the bus every morning to go to office.
It rains every afternoon in the summer season.
We go to Tirupati every year.

3. For general truths / Universal truths

For Example
Water freezes at zero degrees.
The Earth revolves around the Sun.
Honey is sweet.
Milk is white.

4.For fixed arrangements / Actions

For Example
My friend arrives tomorrow.
Our holidays start on 26th April.
Modi visits USA on Monday.

5. Historical Events

For Example
Rama goes to forest along with Lakshmana.
Hanuma meets sita in Lanka.

1. Affirmative Statements: Subject + Verb + ……..
We should Add -s or -es to the verb when the subject is with 3rd person singulars (he, she, it, Junaid, Pencil, house, etc.). Use the base form of the verb means (V1)  (no change) with all other subjects.
For example
I Play.
We Play.
You Play.
He Play.
They Play.
She Plays.
It Plays.
Junaid Plays.
Persons

1st person
2nd person
3rd person
Singular
I,
you
He, she, it, Mohan
Plural
we
you
They

2. Negative Statements: Subject + Do/Does + Not + Verb + ......

For Example
I do not Play.
We do not Play.
You do not Play.
They do not Play.
He does not Play.
She does not Play.
It does not Play.
Junaid does not plaly.
Note: There is no -s or -es ending to the verb. It remains in its base form means (V1) "Play".

3. Questions: Do/Does + Subject + Verb + ......?
For Example
Do I play?
Do we play?
Do you play?
Does he play?
Do they play?
Does she play?
Does it play?
Does Junaid Play?
*There is no -s or -es ending to the verb. It remains in its base form Means (V1) "Play".

Examples
Dilnawaz goes to school every morning.
Latha understands English Grammar.
He tries very hard.
Latha enjoys playing the Tabala.
