How can we use the perfect participle in a sentence?

We can use the perfect participle to form participle clauses:

Rule: 1

*When the action has already been completed before the other action begins.

For Example:

I lost all my money. I went home.

Having lost all my money, I went home.

Rule: 2

*The action takes place over a longer period of time until another action.

Example:

The runners had been practicing around on the meadow all day long so that they were tired.

Having practiced around on the meadow all day long, the runners were tired.

Rule: 3

In the passive form, we form the perfect participle with “having been + V3”.

For Example

Having been bitten by a snake, the man immediately sought medical advice.
