Spoken English Lesson - 9

Simple Past Tense Uses 

Past Tense is four types. They are:

Simple past

past continuous

past perfect

past perfect continuous

Simple Past

This tense is used to talk about completed actions that happened in the past.

for example

I learnt grammar.

Structure

Sub + V2 + --------------  (Positive)

Did + Sub + V1 + .............? (Interrogative)

Table

I         played Chess yesterday.

We         played Chess yesterday.

You         played Chess yesterday.

They played Chess yesterday.

My friends played Chess yesterday.

He         played Chess yesterday.

She         played Chess yesterday.

It         played Chess yesterday.

Akansha played Chess yesterday.

Keywords: Yesterday, last weak, last month, last year, in 2019, a few minutes ago, a few months ago, a few days ago, long ago etc.

Examples

I met her yesterday.

I wrote my exam last weak.

She came here ten minutes ago.

I complete my 10th class in 2006.

I went to Hyderabad in 2004.

Interrogative Sentences In Simple Past

Structure

Did + Sub + V1 + .............?

For example

Did you sing songs?

Did you play chess?

Table

Did I learn grammar?

Did you learn grammar?

Did we learn grammar?

Did they learn grammar?

Did my friends learn grammar?

Did he learn grammar?

Did she learn grammar?

Did it learn grammar?

Did Akansha learn grammar?

drink drank drunk drinking

  V1           V2           V3         V1 + ing

Did + V1         = V2

did + drink       =  drank         V2

did + sing        =  sang         V2

did + play        =  played         V2

did + go           =  went         V2

did + speak     =  spoke         V2

Positive sentences in simple past

1.I accepted my mistake.

2.I added him in the group.

3.I sent the files.

4.I came to my house.

Negative sentences in simple past

1.I did not accept my mistake.

2.I did not add him to the group.

3.I did not send the files.

4.I did not come to my house.

Interrogative sentences in simple past

1.Did I accept my mistake?

2.Did I add him to the group?

3.Did I send the files?

4.Did I come to my house.?

Negative Interrogative in simple past

1.Didn't I accept my mistake?

2.Didn't I add him to the group?

3.Didn't I send the files?

4.Didn't I come to my house?
